Types of Night Vision Binoculars

Night vision binoculars are specially designed to be used in low light or no light conditions; these are usually standard binoculars that are enhanced using available technologies such as image intensification or thermal imaging for night viewing. Our eyes can only see the visible part of any light spectrum. However, the infrared light has a wavelength that is higher than the visible light even though our eyes cannot discern it; this technology uses infrared light to enable us see images that are in darkness.  Nikon-Aculon-10X50-CF-360x360

There are three types of night vision binoculars that use infrared light from different sources and they include:

Image intensifier night vision binoculars: These are the first generation gadgets that make use of visible light from the moon, stars and just a little infrared to focus on an object. These are the most commonly used of them all and they are relatively affordable; the resulting image is normally greenish in color.

Digital night vision binoculars: This model uses an infrared illuminators and, as such, can be used even in situations where there is very little or no light since they are able to produce their own infrared light waves. They are effective whether or not there is any light and they produce images that are black and white. They use gallium arsenide in a photo cathode with a high electronic velocity that works by accelerating the conversion of photons into electrons.

Thermal night vision binoculars: We all know that heat produces a large amount of infrared waves; this is what this binoculars use. They make use of infrared detectors to detect the accumulation of infrared waves to create an image which will be produced in black, white and grey.

Night vision binoculars are mostly used by astronomers, trekkers, hunters and people in the military because they are likely to find themselves wandering in the dark during their operations. They come in different models and designs for use with tripods, with hands as well as mask types that can be used hands free.
